We started this program in secret back in the summer of 2007 to serve the economically challenged children of West Coconut Grove Florida. Miraculously we have been able to keep it going with no budget or donations for the past three years. What we do is collect unwanted or broken skate equipment, refurbish it and give it away to any local skater who knocks on our door and asks for help. We have been blessed that none of our skaters have ever had to go more than one day without wood to push. Besides supplying decks, wheels, hardware, grip and trucks; we have also served our community with the Amigo Skate Team which hosts free mini camps, organizes canned food drives for local area homeless. and The team also raises funds through providing skate demos and entertainment to local South Florida events like the Miami Dade County Youth Fair and the Skateboard Rodeo. These demos not only raise awareness but also help fund skate trips for kids who otherwise would never have skated outside their neihborhoods.
We do this not only because we love seeing kids get stoked on skateboarding; but we have been able to witness first hand the positive impact this non-sport has had on many a lost youth.
We have expanded this program and are currently working on raising funds to take skateboards and equipment to Cuba. We are dedicated to the preservation on skateboarding in Havana. Over the last several months we have helped sponsor skate contests, art expos, live music and given away as much skate product as we can collect.
